Gateway Recalls Notebook Batteries - Fire Hazard!
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Gateway Computers is recalling thousands of of lithium-ion battery packs, as some could pose a fire hazard.
The battery packs, apparently, can overheat. Gateway has received reports of battery packs overheating, including minor property damage. No injuries have been reported.
About 14,000 battery packs have been shipped as the primary or spare power sources for two series of notebooks.
The recalled battery packs were for some Gateway 400VTX and 450ROG series notebooks. They are identified by part numbers: 6500760 or 6500761. The part number and “made by SMP” are printed on a label on the underside of the battery pack. They were sold via Gateway’s professional and direct distributors, as well as Gateway Country stores nationwide from May 2003 through August 2003.
The CPSC says consumers should stop using the recalled batteries at once and contact Gateway to receive a replacement. For more info, contact Gateway at (800) 292-6813 between 7 AM. and 10 PM, Central Time, seven days a week or visit the company’s web site.

Online Computer Deals
Last year, around this time, I bought a new computer. Around the holidays, they have fantastic computer blowout sales.
I guess its because computers, both PC and MAC, are offering more speed, memory, hard drive storage space, and come loaded with features and software.
From what I can tell, this year is no different, and the prices are better than ever before.
The great thing is, you can purchase your system online, and have it delivered right to your front door, in just a few days!
Besides the pre-fab desktops and notebooks, some companies will let you customize your own machine, building it to YOUR needs and specifications.
Christmas is the computer blowout season! I think you'll find some pretty sweet deals.

Boat in a Bag
Have you ever seen a boat in a bag? I'm not talking about an inflatable, I'm talking about a solid vessel, that actually breaks down to fit in a bag.
Its called the Tote-N-Boat, and is actually a canoe, but you can put a motor on the thing. It also seats two people.
Its really amazing! A sportsman could keep the boat and his fishing tackle in the trunk of his car, and take a day off for for some fishing, at a moment's notice. Pretty cool, huh?
Click here to read more info I've compiled on it. There's also a photo of the boat "in action!"
Come to think of it, it'd be great for a survivalist, or to have on hand in an emergency situation, particularly if you live in a flood-prone area.

Space Shuttle Patches and NASA Gear
I've always been into astronomy and space travel. I was lucky to have been a reporter, covering many important events of the United States Space Program, including the very first
STS Mission.
Overall, Americans - sadly -don't seem to be as interested or excited as they were during the "space race," so I say: "Lets keep the interest alive!
A great gift (even for yourself) would be some NASA Gear, like a ballcap or T-Shirt.
One of my all-time favorities is the COMPLETE set of official Shuttle Mission patches, including the Shuttle Program Patch.

Natural Cures
A friend of mine was watching one of those television infomercials the other day, and called to tell me he'd seen Kevin Trudeau discussing his book: "Natural Cures They Don't Want You to Know About."
I'll admit, I was a tad skeptical, but I loooked into this further and determined there's, indeed, truth that Americans ARE being over-medicated.
A governent study - just released - indicates over 40 percent of Americans take at least one prescription drug, and one in six takes at
least three.
Lets face it, we're plummeted with prescription drug commercials on television. They've got a pill or patch for darned near anything.
To use the old newspaper boy's phrase: "Read All About It!
